Male Patient Evaluation
Semen Analysis
Semen Analysis
A semen analysis is an accurate measurement of the number of sperm, their motility, normality. Parameters to be evaluated are volume, number of sperm present, viscosity (thickness), motility (movement) and morphology (shape).
Instructions for Collection:
Refrain from any ejaculation including masturbation for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 days.
The semen specimen is collected by masturbation and stored in a special container provided by the Center.
Bring the specimen to the laboratory within ½ hour after collection. Specimen must not be exposed to extremes of either hot or cold temperature. as these can affect the motility and viability of your sperm. We also have a private room available at our center that can facilitate easier collection and storage.
The specimen must be labeled with your name and delivered directly to one of our staff members.
(TESA/TESE) Testicular/Epididymal Sperm Aspiration/Extraction
These procedures are for some men who have had previous vasectomy, experience blockage or other conditions that prevent the passage of sperm through the normal ejaculatory process. A minor surgical procedure can be performed by a urologist in which a small amount of tissue from the testicle is removed (TESE) or sperm is directly aspirated using a needle (TESA) under local anesthesia so the embryologist can find sperm to use for fertilization of the egg with ICSI.
