Oocyte Donation
Egg Donation (oocyte) - Egg donation involves a woman (a donor) "donating" her eggs so that another woman
(a recipient) might be able to conceive. In egg donation, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is performed in the
usual manner, except that the donor may receive fertility medications to stimulate the production of
multiple eggs in her ovaries. At the same time, the recipient may also receive medications so that her
cycle mirrors the cycle of the donor and her body is prepared to receive the embryo.
The egg is then
fertilized in a laboratory and the embryos are implanted in the recipient's uterus. The success rate for
couples undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) with egg donation — even when a woman is over age 40 — is
approximately 62% .
Generally, egg donation may be an option for a woman under any of the following conditions:
Premature menopause occurring before the age of 40
Diminished ovarian reserve - an age-related decline in fertility that typical occurs after the age of 40, but may occur in younger women
Inability to produce eggs or production of poor-quality eggs
Failure to become pregnant after other infertility treatments, such as fertility drugs
Carrier of genetic abnormalities
Poor response to Infertility Drugs
Natural Cycle IVF
Here at Serum Biomedical Institute, as much as possible, we follow the cycle of the ooyte recipient (If she has a regular cycle). This means that the recipient does not need to be down regulated. The Oocyte donor's is then stimulated according to the recipient's cycle. We have obtained tremendous results using this method at our IVF center.
